Commonly Used Spades Terms
bid - at the start of each round you must make a bid as to how many tricks you expect to take with your hand.
over bid - this refers to the 13 total hands (tricks) in a round the total bid by all players is more than the total number available
points - you either earn or lose points in every round depending on whether you achieved you bid total or not and for bags accumulated
bag - when you win more hands in a round than you bid those extra hands are called bags
rounds - each complete game of spades is made up of a number of rounds which points are accumulated for your total score
solo - this simply refers to playing a game in which everyone plays as an individual without a partner.
suit - there are 4 suits in a deck, spades, hearts, clubs and diamonds
teaming up - when more than 1 person at a table helps another person in preventing a third person from achieving their objective
trick - in each round of 4 handed spades each player is dealt 13 cards or 1/4 of the deck. Every player must play 1 card in every hand. This is referred to as a trick. Therefor there are 13 tricks available in every round.
trump - to trump simply means you do not have a card in the suit that was lead and therefor you elect to play a spade and trump the hand
